Earlier this week, Miley Cyrus launched her Backyard Sessions performance series by teaming with Joan Jett for a rendition of “Different”. The sessions are meant to bring awareness and funding to Cyrus’ Happy Hippie nonprofit, an organization aimed at getting “young people to fight injustice facing homeless youth, LGBT youth and other vulnerable populations.” Today, the Bangerz singer and the Blackhearts frontwoman return with another performance, this time joined by Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace.
Together, the trio of ladies tackle The Replacements’ classic trans anthem “Androgynous”. Instead of going for a straight forward take, they put a bit of a country spin on it, highlighted by the light notes of a mandolin and Against Me!’s Atom Willard tambourine claps. But even as a peppier, Southernized version, the track’s powerful message remains strong, especially coming in the form of these three’s distinct voices and harmonies. Watch below.
