Christmas came early for about 50 fans of Refused last night. In support of forthcoming album Freedom, the long-awaited follow-up to 1998’s The Shape of Punk to Come, the Swedish hardcore punks played a secret, intimate show (read: very sweaty) at Los Angeles record shop Vacation Vinyl.
The performance marked the band’s first in-store performance in about two decades (!) and featured a slew of surprises, including cuts old and new, as well as ferocious takes on Black Flag’s “My War” and Fugazi’s “Bed for the Scraping”. The fan-caught video is intense stuff and should make ticket holders very, very excited for their highly-anticipated reunion tour this summer.
Check out footage of their two covers below, followed by a few other pics and short clips from the set.
