“Inside Out”, a highlight off Spoon’s 2014 album They Want My Soul, has been making the headlines lately in one form or another. In the past few weeks alone, we’ve seen the track get reworked by Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti and covered by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. Today, Spoon’s unveiled the single’s corresponding music video.

Directed by LeBlanc + Cudmore (alt-J, Belle and Sebastian), it’s a bizarre clip that sees frontman Britt Daniel sitting in on a bunch of random, unconnected scenes: a robbery; a birthday bash; a sexual encounter in a fleabag motel; a girl group’s recording session; and a wedding. Daniel never seems to be visible to anyone else but us viewers, which begs the question: Is he even real? Is he a figment of these characters’ imagination? Or are these actually just some of his own memories? Watch below and see if you can figure it out.
