Lauryn Hill plays a prominent role on Nina Revisited, the upcoming Nina Simone tribute album, contributing six of the 16 tracks. Already we’ve heard her rattle her pipes on moving covers of “Feeling Good” and “Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair”.
Now, she gets to flex her flow on a new version of Simone’s 1968 tune “Ain’t Got No/I Got Life”. Re-dubbed simply “I’ve Got Life”, it features Hill rapping over the soulful original. Check it out below.
Here’s the original for comparison:
Nina Revisited is due out on July 10th via RCA Records and also features Usher, Common, and Mary J. Blige. The LP coincides with the new documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone?, out now on Netflix.
