The Grand Overlook Hotel is the Wes Anderson and Stanley Kubrick mashup we deserve

Odds are that Stanley Kubrick and Wes Anderson likely would have been friends. The two cinematic auteurs both share an impeccable taste in precision and they both treat each immaculate shot as if it were a rare portrait to be framed in The Louvre. That’s why this ridiculous mashup of The Shining and The Grand Budapest — dubbed The Grand Overlook Hotel — works so damn brilliantly.

London-based filmmaker Steve Ramsden has seamlessly patched the two films together, despite them being 34 years and whole genres apart. The end result is a delightful, minute-long trailer that does a fine job convincing you that M. Gustave (Ralph Fiennes) and Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) co-exist in the same hotel. Stephen King’s macabre story has never looked so damn twee.
