Coldplay may be one of the acts still conspicuously missing from festival lineups this summer, but fans in India got their Chris Martin fix last night. The frontman played a small and impromptu acoustic gig at Summer House Cafe, a bar in the country’s capital of Delhi.
Locals cheered Martin on as he took the stage, like he was a hometown hero finally back after months on the road. (If only Drake received similar accolades overseas.) Martin kicked off his set with “Viva La Vida”, which he says was the first Coldplay song ever played in India. He also performed “Fix You” and “Paradise”.
The British singer and piano man was in the area promoting the Global Poverty Project and Global Citizen alongside actress Frieda Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire). Indian musician Vishal Dadlani, who met up with Martin and Pinto, said the Summer House crowd was “going apeshit” over the surprise show.
