Puerto Rican fuzz pop outfit Los Manglers has a fascination with Victorian and Pre-Raphaelite art. It’s a far cry from frontwoman Laira Díaz and guitarist Enrique Olivares’ bubblegum punk roots with Dandy and the Walkers. After that band broke up, they began concerning themselves with long gone eras and started writing songs about enchantresses, maidens, and lovers. Now, they’re welcoming others into their distorted world with their debut album, Between Worlds, out July 31st via Last Bummer Records.

Their latest single, “Before the Mirror”, is a femme fatale romp. The damning guitar riffs give a menacing platform for Díaz to sneer with her chilling vocals. The walking bass lines and constant drums hold the song together for Olivares to deliver a scorching solo. If this were the Victorian era, Los Manglers would be the brash young artists frightening and enthralling the likes of Raphael and Michelangelo.
