Now that The Hunger Games is behind her, Jennifer Lawrence has been booking some intriguing projects for herself. She’s already wrapped David O. Russell’s Joy, which hits theaters Christmas Day, and she’ll soon explore space with Chris Pratt in next year’s Passengers. Now, as Variety reports, she’ll shed some tears and deliver some laughs in Sony’s romantic dramedy, The Rosie Project.
The film is based on Graeme Simsion’s 2013 novel of the same, which tells the story of Don Tillman, a socially awkward genetics professor who struggles to find that special someone. To remedy this situation, he devises a unique 16-page survey titled the Wife Project, which helps single out all the nasty habits he can’t stand. Then, of course, he stumbles upon Rosie Jarman, someone who doesn’t meet any of his many, many preferences. How scientific!
Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber (500 Days of Summer) adapted the novel for the screen, which will be produced by Matt Tolmach and Michael Costigan. At one point, directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were interested in helming the picture, but they’ve since drifted off into a galaxy far, far away. Though, with Lawrence now on board, that shouldn’t be quite a task for Sony. May we suggest a little director by the name of Cameron Crowe?
