Pop megastars Taylor Swift and Katy Perry have become embroiled in a tense feud over allegations that Perry stole Swift’s backup dancers. Or, at least we think. Neither singer has directly acknowledged their beef, but both have done little to extinguish the flames.
Perry seemingly referred to Swift as “Regina George in sheep’s clothing” a few months back, a reference to the villain in the film Mean Girls. Swift then swiftly responded with “Bad Blood”, a diss track targeted at “an unnamed female artist had crossed her one too many times,” who many assumed to be Perry.
The rivalry continued last week, when Perry openly mocked Swift for inserting herself into Nicki Minaj’s controversial snubbing by the MTV VMAs. Minaj accused the awards show of failing to recognize the talents of black women, which Swift mistakenly took to be a personal attack. “I’ve done nothing but love & support you,” Swift tweeted at Minaj. “It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.” Which prompted Perry to tweet, “Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…”
Now, Swift has responded to Perry with some grade A trolling. While performing “Bad Blood” during a gig in Foxborough, MA over the weekend, Swift briefly danced alongside a projection of “Left Shark”, the costumed fish that stole the show at Perry’s Super Bowl Halftime performance earlier this year. Like I said, grade A trolling.
