As we discovered by the leaking of Sony’s internal database, there was a lot of back and forth over the direction of Aaron Sorkin’s new Steve Jobs biopic. Originally David Fincher was attached to helm a film starring Christian Bale in the titular role, but both men eventually dropped out. Danny Boyle was tapped as Fincher’s replacement, but Sony had trouble settling on its lead actor, courting everyone from Leonard DiCaprio to Ben Affleck to Bradley Cooper. Eventually, the studio settled on Michael Fassbender, a great actor who looks nothing like Steve Jobs.
Herein lies the problem with the newly revealed trailer for Steve Jobs. Combining the talents of Sorkin, Boyle, and Fassbender, the film looks to be a West Wing-style drama with intense scenes, over-the-top dialogue, and an actor who struggles to embody the methodic qualities of Steve Jobs. But maybe that’s just me.
Out October 9th, Steve Jobs also stars Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, along with Kate Winslet, Jeff Daniels, Katherine Waterston, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
