Ryan Reynolds has been pulling for a Deadpool movie for over a decade. Finally, after all those years, it’s really happening, and we have the trailer to prove it. Footage from the Tim Miller-directed film premiered at San Diego Comic-Con last month, but now the official red-band trailer has arrived online.
First off, a warning: As a red-band trailer, this is not very SFW. That is to say, there’s lots of heads getting bullets put in them, and some wonderfully R-rated word usage. For those willing to take a look, however, get ready to see what an R-rated comic book film can be, as the clip demonstrates all the things fans love about the Merc with a Mouth. There are in-jokes (“Just please, don’t make the super-suit green… or animated!” Reynolds’ character says, a reference to Green Lantern), fourth wall-breaking bits of dialogue, and irreverently dirty language (“You look like Freddy Krueger face-fucked a topographical map of Utah”). There’s even a scene that appears to be taken almost entirely from the test footage leaked months ago. Take a look:
Bonus: Reynolds appeared on Conan tonight to premiere the trailer. He also gave Conan a massage:
Alongside Reynolds, the film stars Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Wardhead, Morena Baccarin as Copycat, Ed Skerin as Ajax, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, Andre Tricoteux as Colossus, and T.J. Miller as Weasel. The film hits theaters February 12th, 2016. Here’s the official synopsis:
“Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.”
