In 2012, GZA announced plans for Dark Matter, a new album that explores the rapper’s lifelong interest in various academic fields, particularly astronomy and quantum physics. By the sound of it, the extended wait has been worthwhile, as GZA recently entered the studio to collaborate with legendary film composer Vangelis.

The 72-year-old Greek provided music for Chariots of Fire, for which he won an Academy Award in 1981, Blade Runner, 1492: Conquest of Paradise, and Alexander. However, this marks the first time Vangelis has ever collaborated with a rapper.

GZA said “new material” will arrive in Spring 2016.

Below, revisit Vangelis’ theme for Chariots of Fire.
