Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have filed for divorce, but another celebrity separation has just devastated Hollywood and all those who believed in eternal love. Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have announced they’ve broken up.
The news came during Tuesday’s Television Critics Association summer press event, where the pair were on hand to promote ABC’s forthcoming The Muppets mockumentary show. Kermit himself revealed the news, calling it “a day-by-day, moment-by-moment process.” According to TV Line, he continued, “Piggy and I have gone our separate ways romantically.”
The Muppets is still on track for a Tuesday, September 22nd premiere, though Kermit admitted there were hardships. “It can be tough to work with your ex. There will be an official statement released in the press (see below). I don’t want to betray anything.” After a bit of goading from Muppets co-showrunner and executive producer Bill Prady, Kermit revealed that he was indeed dating a new pig named Denise, who works in marketing at ABC.
Miss Piggy appeared after Kermit’s announcement and confirmed the sad news. “Dating moi is like flying close to the sun,” she said. “It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens.”
Kermit later released an official statement, which you can read below:
So there it is. True love is a farce, and there’s no such thing as a soul mate. Excuse me while I go get a box of tissues and watch The Muppets Take Manhattan.
