Hollywood’s coziest bedfellows are getting together for another film. Leonardo DiCaprio will reconnect with legendary director Martin Scorsese for an adaptation of Erik Larson’s thrilling crime story, The Devil in the White City.
Originally released in 2003, the book tells the true stories of Daniel H. Burnham, the architect behind the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims. DiCaprio will play the role of Holmes.
An adaptation of White City has been in the works for several years. At one point, Tom Cruise was in line to star in a film directed by Kathryn Bigelow. However, DiCaprio himself acquired the rights to the book in 2010 and has since agreed to terms with Paramount for distribution. Billy Ray (The Hunger Games, Captain Philips) has been tagged to write the script.
White City is DiCaprio’s sixth collaboration with Scorsese. The pair previously teamed up on 2002’s Gangs of New York, 2004’s The Aviator, 2006’s The Departed, 2010’s Shutter Island, and 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street.
A release date for the film has yet to be announced. However, according to reports, it will be Scorsese’s next film, so development should begin fairly quickly.
