Taylor Swift has made bringing out surprise guests part of nearly every concert on her 1989 World Tour. While the habit has become increasingly inane, with Swift seemingly doing nothing more than showing off her famous friends and popularity stock, she actually brought out a guest with a purpose last night. At yet another sold out Staples Center show in LA, the “Bad Blood” singer welcomed Alanis Morissette on stage to duet on her classic “You Oughta Know”.
“I think it’s fair to say that so many of the female singer-songwriters of my generation, including myself, would not write the way that we do without her and her music,” Swift said when introducing Morissette, according to Us Weekly. “And she has written some of the most brilliant music — in particular probably inarguably the greatest breakup song of all-time.”
The performance came as Morissette’s landmark Jagged Little Pill album celebrates its 20th anniversary. Despite the age gap, the sublimity of Morissette’s appearance wasn’t lost on the crowd. The 41-year-old can still belt it out like it was 1995, as you can hear in the Vine and Instagram videos below.
