Last month, Key & Peele lampooned the relationship between OutKast’s André 3000 and Big Boi in what we thought was spectacularly perfect fashion. Turns out that Big Boi thought it was pretty funny too, but not for the same reasons we did.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah,” he told Pitchfork when asked whether he’d seen the sketch. “I sent it to Dre, that shit was funny as hell. It was funny as hell ‘cause it was way off, but it was funny as hell.” He went on to say that the most inaccurate part was the implication that the two don’t even talk anymore. According to Big Boi, that’s the furthest thing from the truth.
“If anybody’s been following me on social media—if we’re not doing music then people think we’re not together—but we’ve been really hanging out with our kids this summer; we’ve been going paintballing, we’ve been going to golfing, we’ve been hanging out every week.
“We had a real good summer. It’s been a real relaxing summer for the both of us but you know, we’ve really just been enjoying the brotherhood aside from the music. Since we’ve been doing that all our life, we’re just getting back to the friendship, you know?”
While it’s actually pretty sweet to picture Big, André, and their kids building sandcastles on the beach together, it’s still hard to not imagine Dre wearing this while they do it:
