Leonardo DiCaprio pushes it to the limit with each and every one of his performances. For Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant, he’s willing to be mauled by a goddamn grizzly bear.

The latest trailer for Iñárritu’s highly anticipated follow up to Birdman only heightens that anxiety as we watch the star go through hell and back to survive the frosty North American forests and take revenge on those who robbed him dead.

“We did what we had to do,” Tom Hardy explains to his fellow fur traders. “He was buried right.” Not so fast Mad Max. Looks as if it’ll take more than just a few tufts of soil to put Lenny DiCap down.

Based on a true story, this 19th century western thriller tells the story of Hugh Glass (DiCaprio), a fur trader who is mauled by a bear while out in the wilderness. Rather than assist, however, his companion John Fitzgerald (Hardy) robs him and leaves him for dead. “With sheer will as his only weapon,” Glass is able to survive the attack and sets out on a “quest to survive and exact vengeance on Fitzgerald,” according to the plot synopsis.

The Revenant hits theaters on Christmas Day. Watch the newly revealed first trailer below.
