The Decemberists announce Florasongs EP, share “Why Would I Now?” — listen

Five leftovers from the What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World sessions are coming next month

With four years separating their last two records, it’s no surprise that The Decemberists had quite a cache of songs built up. Now, the folk favorites have collected five unused tracks from the What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World sessions for their forthcoming Florasongs EP. Due out October 9th, the band has previewed the compendium with a new single called “Why Would I Now?”.

“Why Would I Now?” is a pretty straightforward Decemberists song, gentle guitar strums and simple rhythms driving a song of dedicated love. In his distinctive warble, Colin Meloy reminds his lover that he’s never “come unstayed,” while assuring him that having “brought on shame” before, “why would I now?” Take a listen below.
