Love or hate him, but Michael Moore is back. Last night, audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) were surprised with his first film in six years, Where To Invade Next.
The long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s Capitalism: A Love Story finds the documentary filmmaker visiting countries — “invading”, so to speak — on behalf of America and attempting to uncover certain policies or practices that might benefit the not-so-old Land of Liberty.
Glowing reviews have been popping up all morning. The great Noel Murray for The Playlist writes that Moore “has made his best film in over a decade, and one that clarifies exactly what his strengths are,” adding: “he’s come up with something that’s persistently stirring.”
As of publishing, the documentary is without distribution, though given Moore’s past track record (see: Fahrenheit 9/11’s then unprecedented $222 million worldwide box office back in 2004), it’s just a matter of time. For now, watch the humorous teaser trailer below and stay tuned for Sarah Kurchak’s ensuing coverage of this year’s TIFF.
