With a name like Celine Neon, there’s a lot of hype to live up to. Thankfully, the Chicago duo bearing the name is just as vibrant and audacious as you’d imagine a neon Celine Dion being. Comprised of long-time friends Emily Nejad and Maggie Kubley, the group has been winning over local audiences with their boisterous production and infectious pop melodies. Earlier this year they released their self-titled EP, which condensed their party aesthetic into seven certified bangers.
The group already have plans to release their sophomore EP, Kitty, on November 13th via Kujad Records. In the meantime, they’re committed to keeping their massive vibes going with a remix of their track “PLZ PARTY” featuring CoSigned rapper ShowYouSuck.
“When we discussed remixing ‘Plz Party’, we thought of involving ShowYouSuck immediately,” Nejad tells Consequence of Sound. “His energy is right on level with the raw swag of the song. Plus, we thought he’d be able to comment on the grimy side of the music game hustle, which is what ‘Plz Party’ is all about.”
ShowYouSuck shared the group’s enthusiasm for the track, adding, “Working on this song was a rad experience, it’s a different sound I’ve never worked with before. It challenged me to the point where I actually wrote a total of 6 different verses for it. The ladies were super patient during the process and I’m really happy with result.”
The track opens with Nejad and Kubley chanting, “Please party” over pitched-down vocals and dystopian synthesizer samples. Suddenly, a wall of massive drums and guitars bursts in to announce ShowYouSuck’s arrival before he spits a fiery verse about Instagram wannabes vying for fame. The intensity keeps rising, reaching the sonic equivalent of Andrew W.K. shredding guitar on a Mad Max death machine. Celine Neon and ShowYouSuck prove to be a formidable pairing, both fully capable of adding some sharp celebrity commentary into a hard partying aesthetic.
