It took 30 years, but Dave Grohl finally got his revenge on high school nemesis Chet Lott. As the story goes, Lott claimed victory over Grohl at Thomas Jefferson High School’s 9th Grade Battle of the Bands in 1983. The loss didn’t seem to impact Grohl’s musical career too much, as he would find himself a member of Nirvana just seven years later. Even still, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer was unable to shed the shame of defeat — that was until Wednesday night.
During Foo Fighters’ gig in Memphis, Grohl invited Lott to the stage to join the band in singing a cover of Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure”. Grohl let Lott sing lead so he could experience what it really feels like to be a rock star. Afterward Lott told Grohl, “I may have won the battle, but you won the war.”
Don’t feel too bad for Lott; he’s the son of former Senate Majority leader Trent Lott, and actually play music professionally. In fact, all proceeds from his music go to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina. So it looks like life worked out pretty good for both men.
