Eddie Vedder’s fandom of the Chicago Cubs goes well beyond the champagne-soaked t-shirt he wore in the locker room during the team’s wild card celebrations last week. Back in 2007, the Evanston, Illinois native debuted “(Someday We’ll Go) All the Way”, a song written about his Cubs fandom, during a Pearl Jam concert in Chicago. The following year he released a recorded version of the tribute.
Last night, he serenaded his hometown team once more, this time in celebration of their win over the St. Louis Cardinals to take the National League Division Series. The Cubs’ Kris Bryant captured a brief clip of the performance and shared it via Instagram. Watch below. Update: The performance apparently took place after the game at pitcher Jon Lester’s house. Vedder also spoke about the big win in an interview with the local CBS station in Chicago:
Unfortunately for Vedder, Pearl Jam has a South American tour scheduled during the World Series. In an interview with Yahoo! Sports, Vedder admitted he didn’t expect the Cubs to advance so far this season. ”It’s been a surprise. We’re touring and I have to leave before the World Series,” adding, “All I’m saying is that the next few years we’re not going to play in October.”
