Veteran French filmmaker Luc Besson has found his next vehicle. It’s an adaptation of writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières’ Valérian, the best-selling French sci-fi comic series that ran from 1967 to 2010.

Starring Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, and Rihanna, the production begins shooting later this year from a screenplay written by Besson. Virginie Besson-Silla will produce for EuropaCorp, who will finance, produce, and distribute the film.

Valérian follows the titular spatio-temporal agent and his redheaded female partner Laureline in their adventures across space and time. Besson’s work on 1997’s The Fifth Element was deeply inspired by the comic’s storylines, concepts, and designs.

Sadly, the film won’t hit theaters until July 21st, 2017.
