The National have been busy working on the follow-up to 2013’s exceptional Trouble Will Find Me. Last night, they gave fans what may be the first preview of their new album, debuting a song called “Roman Candle” during a benefit concert in Los Angeles. Watch footage of the performance below.
Update – October 21st: During their performance at Treasure Island, The National performed the song again, but this time called it “Checking Out”.
In August, frontman Matt Berninger revealed the band already accumulated sketches for 30 new songs, with plans to reconvene in the studio while in Los Angeles.
Last night’s benefit concert came in benefit of the nonprofit Cooperative for Education. The organization was co-founded by frontman Matt Berninger’s cousins, Joe and Jeff Berninger. They’re hoping their new campaign, titled Thousand Girls Initiative, will help improve the education of girls in Guatemala.
