The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have announced the follow-up effort to their 2014 LP, Days of Abandon. Entitled Hell, the three-track effort is due out November 13th via the band’s own label, Painbow.
According to frontman Kip Berman, the unexpectedly positive response to a demo of the title track provoked the creation of the EP. Instead of simply releasing the track as a single, TPOBPAT recorded a pair of covers to fill out a full release: “Ballade of the Band” by Felt and “Laid” by James. Today, they’ve shared the latter track as a first listen to the EP.
Featuring Jen Goma of A Sunny Day in Glasgow, the cover faithfully follows the pattern laid out by James’ college rock original, with a few tweaks of modern production. Guitars and synths buzz more stridently here, and the classic wail of the bridge has been layered with harmonies. Take a listen below.
