Killer Mike has been one of the most outspoken musicians when it comes to issues of race relations and police brutality. He’s penned powerful op-eds and delivered emotional speeches pertaining to Ferguson, and even appeared on national TV to face Fox New’s talking heads and call out Bill O’Reilly.
On Wednesday, the Run The Jewels MC continued to keep the dialogue going, appearing at Florida State University for a lecture on racism, civil rights, and community. Eloquent yet conversational, the rapper, born Michael Render, encouraged the students in the audience to become important members of their communities and to help one another.
“Step out of your comfort zone to engage another human being as a fair and honest equal,” he said, “and based on that engagement, help that individual grow.” Here’s hoping Killer Mike finally gets his chance to run for public office.
