Sia details new album This Is Acting, shares “Birds Set Free” — listen

The follow-up to 1000 Forms of Fear set for January release

Sia is following up her stellar 2014 album, 1000 Forms of Fear, with This Is Acting, an LP comprised of songs she’d originally penned for other artists such as Adele, Beyonce, and Rihanna. Her seventh record to date is due to arrive on January 29th via RCA Records; that’s the artwork above.

“I’m calling it This Is Acting because they are songs I was writing for other people, so I didn’t go in thinking ‘this is something I would say,’” she told NME earlier this year. “It’s more like play-acting. It’s fun.”

Previously, the Aussie pop singer shared “Alive”, the excellent, million dollar lead single that initially had been co-written by her and Tobias Jesso Jr. for Adele. Now, Sia has let loose “Birds Set Free”, an incredibly powerful piano-led ballad that, again, sees her vocals stretching to impressive, fiery heights.

Prior to releasing This Is Acting, Sia will serve as musical guest on Saturday Night Live on November 7th (yes, the same episode hosted by Donald Trump).
