Nick Offerman just made the Yule Log video all that much better

45 minutes of a fire burning, scotch drinking, and Nick Offerman's beautiful gaze

There’s just something about a sitting around a roaring fire that feels quintessential for the holiday season. But for those of us without a real working fireplace, there’s that weird tradition of the Yule Log video to approximate the experience via our screens. Well, leave it to the legend that is Nick Offerman to up the ante on the frankly absurd tradition of digitally replicating a fire by making it simply stupendous.

In a new advertisement for Irish distillery Lagavulin, the bearded funny man sits in a plush leather chair next to a flickering fire, a glass of 16-year-old single malt scotch whiskey in his hand. And that’s it. For 45 minutes, Offerman stares contentedly into the camera, occasionally crossing or uncrossing his legs, once even scratching his ear. All the while, he takes slow sips from his glass, pouring himself another when its empty, but never saying a word.

This will be playing a loop on my family’s TV via Chromecast all during Christmas dinner, thank you. Check it out below.

If you’d prefer something where Offerman’s a little more vocal, check out the video he made for Lagavulin last holiday season, in which he sings his original ode “My Tales of Whiskey”.
