A Head Full of Dreams may be the end for Coldplay, but they’re making the most of what could be their final album while the cycle is still fresh. One month after dropping the LP, the band has shared a video for its latest single, “Birds”.
Directed by Marcus Haney (the kid who snuck into 50 music festivals and wound up Mumford and Sons’ personal photographer), the video documents Coldplay’s trip to California’s Colorado Desert to check out Salvation Mountain. Through Haney’s lens, however, the expedition becomes rather literal, as images swirl around each other in a grainy haze, cut apart like a kaleidoscope. Spliced with clips of a young woman driving through the desert, fizzling fireworks, and (of course) flying birds, there’s a sense of nostalgia to the whole thing. Maybe we’ll look back on this in a year and see it as the beginning of Coldplay’s goodbye.
