Flume will release his new album, Skin, later this year via Mom + Pop Records. As a teaser, the 24-year-old Australian producer has teamed with Canadian songstress Kai for “Never Be Like You”.
Premiering this afternoon as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World, the track is a slow building romance that grows on twinkling notes that warp away as the beat drops for the chorus. Kai’s voice remains sweet and angelic even as she expresses her flawed love for her former lover: “I’m only human, can’t you see/ I made, I made a mistake/ Please just look me in my face/ Tell me everything’s okay/ ‘Cause I got it/ I’ll never be like you.”
“Kai and I were sending ideas back and forth online, then met up in NYC and went into the studio,” Flume (aka Harley Streten) said in a press release. “We laid down some chords and started an idea but weren’t feeling inspired. So we went out into the night for a few hours and when we returned, it all started to come together.”
