Justin Timberlake to star in, contribute new music to Trolls movie

Animated flick based on the '90s toy to hit theaters later this year

Music wasn’t a top priority for Justin Timberlake in 2015, what with the arrival of baby Silas, his first child with wife Jessica Biel. The pop star made an appearance during Taylor Swift’s 1989 Tour, as well as teamed up with Jimmy Fallon for the sixth installment of their “History of Rap” sketch, but mostly remained out of the studio.

That changes this year, however, as Timberlake has been tapped to contribute new music to Trolls, DreamWorks’ upcoming animated movie based on the popular ’90s toy. Additionally, as The Hollywood Reporter notes, The 20/20 Experience singer will serve as the project’s executive music producer and voice one of the film’s characters. (Flaming pink hair isn’t a bad look, eh?)

“I have always envisioned bringing the two worlds of film and music together for one epic event [and] couldn’t be more excited that they will collide in DreamWorks’ Trolls,” Timberlake explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “This film is very special, the music is going to be very special and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it all.”

Trolls, which is due to open on November 4th, will be directed by Mike Mitchell (Shrek Forever After) and Walter Dorhn (Shrek the Third); Anna Kendrick is also expected to voice a character.
