This fall, Peter Hook and the Light will hit the road for a North American tour revisiting both Substance compilation albums from New Order and Joy Division. The trek kicks off on September 22nd at New York’s Webster Hall, followed by dates in Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Austin, and Montreal, among others.
New Order’s Substance came out in 1987 and included the 12-inch versions of all their singles, as well as a number of b-sides. The compilation was originally conceived as a way for Factory Records boss Tony Wilson to play New Order’s singles on the CD player of his new Jaguar.
Joy Division’s Substance arrived a year later and featured the group’s four non-album singles, “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, “Transmission”, “Komakino”, and “Atmosphere”. It also boasted a handful of b-sides and tracks which previously appeared on Factory Records samplers and Joy Division’s debut EP, An Ideal for Living.
