March 4th marks the arrival of United Crushers, the new album from Poliça. Due out through Mom+Pop, it serves as the synthpop outfit’s third LP to date following 2013’s acclaimed Shulamith.
Recorded at Sonic Ranch Studios in El Paso, TX, it finds the band working with themes that are “heavily political and deeply personal with thick references to social injustice, self-doubt and isolation, the rapidly increasing urban decline in gentrification, overcoming music industry machinations, and finding true and honest love in the wake of it all.”
The Minneapolis natives previously shared lead single “Habit” back in November. Now, they’ve returned with a second preview in “Wedding”. As promised, the track, which is highlighted by stormy synths, explores some rather weighty subject matter. Singer Channy Leaneagh spoke to Stereogum about the song:
“‘Wedding’ is about the marriage between the militarization of police in America and the drug trade. How they feed off of each other and get fat and powerful at the expense of all of us. It is a serious song, but I hope it moves you to hope all the same.”
