Yesterday Lorde hit the stage at the Brit Awards for a surprise unannounced tribute to David Bowie. Joined on stage by members of Bowie’s own backing band, she sang the Hunky Dory track “Life on Mars?”.

Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, lauded Lorde’s performance, calling it “beautiful.” If you recall, Jones had a lesser opinion of Lady Gaga’s Bowie tribute at the Grammys.

For her part, Lorde admitted she was “nervous” prior to the performance, “and then i whispered to myself ‘just sing it to David’, and nothing else mattered.”
