As far as Toronto exports go, they don’t get much bigger than Drake. The rapper has long been a strong vocal emissary for his hometown, and now the city is returning that love. Mayor John Tory has announced that he’ll be presenting Drizzy with the Key to the City on Friday.

Mayor Tory shared the news in a series of tweets. “This is a man who has achieved wild success, by any standard. And more than anything, he wants great things for Toronto,” the mayor wrote. “We must celebrate our talent & harness it for change. This isn’t swagger. It is key.”

It would seem that Drake actually foretold of this momentous event in his last single, “Summer Sixteen”. The track features the lyrics, “I might get a key to the city and give it to Wayne/ Or give it to one of the young boys to carry the wave.” We’ll see if he follows through on those promises.

Update – Saturday, February 13th at 2:05 p.m. CT: Mayor John Tory presented Drake with the Key to the City during last night’s NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. Watch footage below.
