The Ballroom Thieves may come from the modest tradition of folk music, but this Boston-based trio understands that bigger can most certainly be better. They’ve always taken steps to make their songs sound huge, and their latest collaboration is certainly their most drastic yet. The band has teamed up with the Maine Youth Rock Orchestra (MYRO) for an eight-date East Coast tour in April and a collaborative single due out February 19th. Ahead of that release, The Ballroom Thieves have shared the first track from the two-sided single, “Brother”.
MYRO consists of 25 students ages 12–18, all of whom are presumably thrilled to go on tour with a nationally acclaimed rock band. “The ability to work with The Ballroom Thieves has been nothing short of a dream,” says Executive Director and Founder Kevin Oates. “The first time our students rehearsed the orchestra parts for ‘Brother’, I couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear.”
Listeners might have the same reaction when they hear how the orchestra’s lush string melodies lend a new character and color to the song. The Ballroom Thieves, for their part, seem to really be loving this “more is more” approach. To hear them tell it, “We couldn’t be more excited to share the unrivaled badassery of this group with our fans across the Northeast.”
Listen in to “Brother” below.
