With the departure of guitarist and co-founder Jim Ward, At the Drive-In’s reunion tour effectively became a Mars Volta reunion tour. As it stands, 3/5 of the band’s lineup consists of Mars Volta principal members, including co-founders Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López, as well as longtime multi-instrumentalist Paul Hinojos. But hey, who am I to say what a band calls itself?
With that in mind, At the Drive-In The Mars Volta kicked off their reunion tour in California this week with a pair of intimate club shows. They performed covered a bunch of At the Drive-In staples, but sadly, did not premiere any material from that new At the Drive-In album At the Drive-In tribute album they’ve been teasing.
