Beetlejuice 2 is a go, with Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, and Winona Ryder

Production should begin shortly, according to Burton

Beetlejuice 2

A sequel to Tim Burton’s horror-comedy classic Beetlejuice has been the talk of Hollywood for over a year now, with both Burton and original cast member Winona Ryder having expressed serious interest in the project. Really the only shoe left to drop was Michael Keaton’s participation, but recent roles in critically lauded films like Birdman and Spotlight threw into question whether Keaton would be interested in waxing nostalgia with Betelgeuse.

Today we got our answer, and it’s very good news. In a new interview with ShowbizSpy, Burton confirmed that both Ryder and Keaton have signed on for Beetlejuice 2. What’s more, the script is complete and production should begin shortly.

“The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael,” Burton revealed. “We have the script in hand everything is in place all we need to do now is get ready to start filming.”

It was previously reported that Burton enlisted Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows) to write the script for Beetlejuice 2. There’s still no timetable for the film’s release, but needless to say:

Update – Friday, March 11th at 3:00 p.m. CT: A representative for Burton denies that the director’s reported comments, saying in a statement, “Tim Burton did not confirm Beetlejuice 2 as the movie is not in development. Tim’s focus is entirely on Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children set for a September 30th, 2016 release and developing Dumbo.'”
