We all love going to a massive, loud rock concert, but over time, those raucous events can become quieter and quieter. All that gnarly guitar shredding and thunderous drumming can do a serious number on one’s hearing. (Just ask Brian Johnson) That’s why Pearl Jam have joined forces MusiCares to provide earplugs to all attendees of their upcoming tour.

As Alternative Nation reports, a MusiCares table will be set up at each of PJ’s spring tour dates. For a small suggested donation, fans can grab a pair of earplugs housed in a limited edition PJ X MusiCares carrying case.

“Don’t be careless and lazy at loud rock shows or cranking tunes through an old Walkman like I was thirty years ago,” said bassist Jeff Ament in a statement, “(but boy did it all sound good). Wear hearing protection or you’ll end up with a 1.5k ring in both ears every night when you go to bed or worse when you are trying to enjoy the serene quiet of an empty desert or forest, again like me.”

Hearing loss has long been a major issue in rock music, with artists like The Who’s Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Ozzy Osbourne, Grimes, Chris Martin, and more all suffering from various levels of diminished sound or tinnitus. Cheers to PJ for stepping in and helping make sure fans maintain their hearing so they can keep enjoying their legendary shows even longer.
