Tom Hiddleston stars as Hank Williams in the upcoming biopic I Saw the Light, hitting theaters April 1st. In marketing material for the film, we’ve heard bits and pieces of Hiddleston adopting the late country legend’s iconic voice for covers of tracks like “Move It On Over”. Now, just a few days away from the release of the official soundtrack, Rolling Stone has premiered full versions of Hiddleston singing “Move It On Over”, “Hey Good Lookin'”, and “Jambalaya”.
To find Williams’ unique vocal vibrations, Hiddleston worked with singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell, a student of Williams himself. “I had listened to ‘Love Sick Blues’ and to ‘Long Gone Lonesome Blues’, and I didn’t know how to make my vocal cords vibrate to make that specific sound,” Hiddleston told Rolling Stone Country late last year. “I thought it was an accident of genetics.”
It was no accident, and as you can hear on the three tracks below, Hiddleston trained himself to be a pretty fine imitator. Take a listen via the playlist below, and pick up the full I Saw the Light soundtrack on March 25th.
