“Please give Michael Keaton an Oscar. Please give Michael Keaton an Oscar.” –me, every time Keaton stars in a drama.
A year ago, the veteran actor was hideously snubbed when he was essentially the only person in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) to not receive some Oscar gold. (Which, to be honest, is quite bullshit considering the film rests largely on his shoulders.) This year, he wasn’t nominated, but he came close to the nominee pool when he kind of, sort of lead Tom McCarthy’s Best Picture winner Spotlight.
Now, it appears he could be a front runner again with The Founder. Directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side, Saving Mr. Banks) and written by Robert D. Siegel (The Wrestler), the film tells the story of McDonald’s founder Ray Croc and how he brought inexpensive hamburgers to millions of mouths across America. Nick Offerman, Linda Cardellini, Laura Dern, BJ Novak, and John Caroll Lynch also co-star. Catch the trailer above.
The Founder opens August 5th via The Weinstein Company.
