This week, Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne were in Paris to participate in “JR at the Louvre”, an exhibition presented by French street artist JR. Their scheduled DJ set ended up turning into an actual surprise performance at the museum’s nearby Jardin des Tuileries, however, complete with percussionists and Butler on cowbell.
During the brief and impromptu affair, Butler and Chassagne spun and played along to David Bowie’s “Oh! You Pretty Things”, Sinead O’Connor’s rendering of “Nothing Compares 2 U”, and Son House’s “Grinnin’ In Your Face”. What’s more, they did an a cappella take on Neon Bible’s “My Body is a Cage”. Chassagne also spent a good portion of her time running around wrapping things in red and white caution tape. Perhaps most importantly, according to those in the audience, they debuted what appears to be a new song reportedly titled “I Gave You Power”.
(I bought a hat just like Butler’s two years ago in Paris, FYI, though it came with no cowbell. I feel gypped.)
Above, find their performance of “I Gave You Power”. Below, find more clips and pictures from the event.
