At least four people were shot during a concert featuring T.I. at New York City’s Irving Plaza on Wednesday night.
Of the victims, two are in critical condition, according to ABC 7 New York. A 34-year-old man was shot in the chest, and a 33-year-old man was shot in the stomach. TMZ reports that one of the victims is not expected to survive. Update: The New York Times reports that the 33-year-old man was killed.
Update: The man killed has been identified as Try Ave’s bodyguard, Ronald McPhatter, aka B$B Banga. McPhatter died at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital after suffering a a gunshot to the stomach.
A 26-year-old woman was also shot, but is in stable condition. A fourth victim, a male, walked into New York University Medical Center; his condition is currently unknown.
Update: Rapper Troy Ave was among the victims. He was shot in the leg and is expected to recover.
Update — Thursday, May 26th at 4:34 p.m. CT: Troy Ave has been arrested in connection with the shooting. According to the New York Daily News, the MC has been charged with reckless endangerment and illegal weapons possession.
“Police said they were awaiting the result of ballistics tests before charging Troy Ave with murder,” the newspaper said. “There is clear video, very graphic video. He walks right out, women all around, and starts shooting his gun,” one anonymous source told the Daily News.
It’s believed Troy Ave had beef with rapper Maino, who had just left the stage when the shots began to ring out. “It’s an ongoing rap group rivalry, him and Maino,” the source added.
Update: — Thursday, May 26th at 6:15 p.m. CT: The NYPD have announced that Troy Ave has officially been charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The police have also released a video of the shooting.
It’s still unclear how many shooters were involved; according to the Times, the shooting occurred in a third-floor green room. Officials have yet to disclose an official motive.
