We already knew that Band of Horses would be returning this summer with their first album since 2012’s Mirage Rock. Now, the band has announced a release date for the record: Why Are You OK will hit stores on June 10th via Interscope.
Band of Horses initially previewed the Jason Lytle-produced LP with lead single “Casual Party”, and today they’ve shared a second listen in the form of “In a Drawer”. There’s an electronic undercurrent to the indie-leaning track, something that sounds almost like an Americana Postal Service with the synth and bass lines running parallel to the snappy drum machine. It’s a sweet and nostalgic number, a befitting mood for a song with the opening verse, “Sitting on a bearskin rug/ Listening to grandpa talk/ The whistle of an odd bird call/ A photo of a long lost dog.” The track features backing vocals by Dinosaur Jr.’s J. Mascis, Sera Cahoone, and Jenn Champion, and you can take a listen below via Spotify or over at Apple Music.
Pre-orders for Why Are You OK are available via iTunes, Amazon (featuring an exclusive blue vinyl), or directly from the band. Ordering from the band grants early access to tickets for their upcoming world tour, the dates of which are here.
