Chance the Rapper is no stranger to making a splash on the late-night circuit. Last October, the Chicago-based hip-hop artist debuted the first single off his third mixtape, “Angels”, on Colbert. With Chance 3 set to drop imminently, Chance paid a visit to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night to debut “Blessings”, another track off his new mixtape.
Chance continues the soulful sonic themes of Kanye West’s “Ultralight Beam”, which Chance himself co-wrote, produced, and contributed a verse to. Like “Ultralight Beam”, “Blessings” is more of an uplifting gospel hymn than a rap track, featuring the presence of a choir, a sermon from Byron Cage, and vocals from fellow Chicagoan Jamila Woods.
Chance 3 will arrive May 13th, according to Fallon. The mixtape follows last year’s one-two punch of Surf, made with his Social Experiment band, and Free (Based Styles Mixtape), his project with Lil B.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZyt5dSNcFo
