Back in December of 2014, Chris Martin said that Coldplay’s A Head Full of Dreams could well be “the final thing we’re doing.” In an interview with Zane Lowe, he compared the record to the last Harry Potter book, implying that it was “the completion of something.” Many took this to mean that the world’s biggest rock band would be coming to a permanent end. As Martin revealed in a new interview with Lowe, however, that’s not exactly the case.
“I don’t think we’d split up as a band,” Martin told Lowe on Beats 1 Radio, “so hopefully we’ll try to work out something to do at some point. But also part of me right now just feels like yeah seven albums, that’s great and they form a kind of circle and they all make sense to me now and I feel really proud of them.”
Whatever that “something” is, don’t expect it to necessarily be a proper follow-up to A Head Full of Dreams. “I’d be surprised if there was another conventional Coldplay album,” Martin added. “I just feel like we’re right where we’re supposed to be right now. I meant what I said to you a couple of years ago I feel like this is a closing chapter of something. I stand by that I’m afraid.”

Whether it’s the end or not, Coldplay still have a few things to wrap up. They’re headlining Glastonbury for a record fourth time, as well as BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend.
