We’re mere hours away from this year’s Cannes Film Festival, so expect to hear about dozens of new films over the next couple of weeks. Here’s one more worth noting: director Scott Cooper’s follow-up to last year’s Johnny Depp-starring Black Mass.
Titled Hostiles, this 19th century-set vehicle will reunite the Virginia filmmaker with his Out of the Furnace leading man Christian Bale for a star-studded affair that will also include Oscar nominee Rosamund Pike, Jesse Plemons, and Will Studi.
The film takes place in New Mexico circa 1892 and revolves around an army captain (Bale) who’s been tasked by President Cleveland to escort a dying chief (Studi) back to his tribal lands of Montana. Pike and Plemons will factor in along the way.
Production begins July 18th. Cooper, Ken Kao, and John Lesher will produce the film for Le Grisbi Prods. Alex Walton and Kao’s Bloom will start shopping around the film’s international rights around Cannes. Fun times ahead.
