Last week, Mac DeMarco took to his Instagram to offer a few solemn words on the late, incomparable Prince. “We lost a true hero of mine the other day,” he wrote on his account, adding, “Although it’s sad, I’m sure he’s ripping a hot solo right now in the next dimension. RIP.” In the same post, the jizz-jazzer hinted that he’d be tackling a Purple One original soon.

Today, he’s revealed his cover, a goofy yet wholly charming take on the 1979 track “It’s Gonna Be Lonely”. It’s accompanied by a live video, filmed for Pitchfork and directed by Jim Larson, which captures DeMarco performing in front of a lovely New York sunset and a mildly unnerving leather mask-clad stranger (because of course).
