Chicago indie rockers Ne-Hi have come a good long way since we CoSigned them back in 2014. The scuzzy quartet just signed to Grand Jury, joining a roster that already includes mates like Twin Peaks, Mothers, and Day Wave. Though a proper debut on the label is still a ways off, the band is celebrating today with the release of a new track, “Buried on the Moon”.
The track is covered in just enough scuzziness to be endearing, a slight air of nostalgia in the twanging reverb of the lead guitar. It’s like there’s a longing for something you already have, which is exactly how the band explains the track. “‘Buried on the Moon’ is about being in limbo while doing something you love,” Ne-Hi said in a press release. “Things aren’t as simple as they used to be and that’s exciting, but that also comes with doubts. It’s also about getting older and feeling some regret, while still reaching for something you have drive and passion for. It’s kind of a reflection on the last year or so being in this kind of creative teenagedom.”
They may be feeling a lack of confidence, but if this new track is any indication of where Ne-Hi is heading with Grand Jury, they’ve got nothing to worry about. Take a listen below.
