Neil Young is hanging around New York City this weekend to promote his forthcoming live album with The Promise of the Real, EARTH. He’ll be at The Museum of Modern Art this evening to host a playback of the album in PONO high-fidelity audio, but last night he stopped by the set of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk up the music player, slam modern pop, and take a few shots at Trump.

Incidentally, the folk rock icon happened to visit Colbert on the same day Donald Trump officially wrapped up enough delegates to clinch the GOP presidential nomination. Young, an outspoken Bernie Sanders supporter, has recently come under criticism for saying he’s now OK with Trump using “Rockin’ in the Free World” as his campaign theme song. Well, in the pre-taped opening segment, he clarified that though Trump has a legal right to use the song, he’s still not thrilled about it. “I didn’t like that idea because of the misogyny and the racism,” he told Colbert.

Later on in the night, Young sat down as Colbert’s guest for a two-part interview. After professing his love for love and Colbert, he discussed the current political climate and why he’s so vocal despite not being able to vote as a Canadian citizen (“I’m a neighbor, and as such I’m affected by what happens, even though I live here”). In talking up EARTH, he quacked like a duck and beeped like a car horn before taking shots at modern pop stars. “Let’s not forget about the vanilla singers and the corporate harmony,” he said. “We have a hologram of the corporate harmony. They float above the stage in the live performance and tell everybody how good they are. Everything’s fine.”

He also explained how most music players “can’t play what I do,” and championed both PONO and the full album experience. Then he got in a fight with a giant ear of GMO corn and made it explode. (Yep.) Watch the pre-taped opener above, and the interview clips below.
